  • One of the biggest source of carbon is vehicular combustion. The largest cars may be comfortable, and the fastest cars may be thrilling, but they release a lot of carbon into the atmosphere. While racing maybe fine, carbon is clearly not.

Destination Zero Carbon is an initiative by a Singapore-based company that encourages students (both school students and college students) to design race cars that are powered exclusively by renewable energy technologies like fuel cells or nitro.

Students are expected to design their own car model using 3D drawing tools and build a physical model of their car, that can compete in races. The cars maybe 1:20 or 1:10 scaled miniature versions (for school students) or real cars that are driven by real drivers (for University teams).

Students from schools in India can also participate in regional/country-wide design/racing contests. For more details on this, refer to this site.

I think it's a good initiative, as sensitizing future generations who are going to face the effects of global warming/carbon emissions, is very critical. Green energy technologies are not just a social cause anymore, they are going to be among the dominant energy technologies of the future. Investing in green energy technologies now, is a smart move for the future.
