The Cochin International Airport becomes the first Airport in India that has decided to produce and utilize solar power. They are planning to install 100 KWp solar panel system that will generate around 148 MW per year and the generated electricity will be used to power up terminal lights, etc.
With both Railway stations and Airports deciding to go with solar power in India, other branches and other PSU's will hopefully follow their lead. Unlike wind and hydro energy, solar energy has the unique advantage of being available (abundantly) everywhere in India and can be set up in any quantity.
A bank, for example, can set up solar panels just to power an ATM machine or they can use solar energy to power an entire branch. With central Govt. and state Govt. incentives for solar energy systems, and the general availability of capital investments, PSU's should come forward and set-up renewable energy systems in order to reduce the (current) demand on the grid.
In remote locations, it might be much easier, much faster and much more reliable to go with solar modules/solar panels for powering small branches/other facilities, than to depend on the unreliable grid.
