Established in 1949, Liebherr Group is a German/Swiss company that manufactures various engineering equipment. For the wind-power industry, they supply large cranes (used in wind turbine erection), large diameter bearings and other components, as mentioned below.
I met the representatives of Liebherr Group at the Wind Power India 2012 expo in Chennai and they were kind enough to give me a CD containing information/details on the products supplied by them for the wind-power industry.

- Liebherr manufactures mobile cranes, telescopic mobile cranes, crawler cranes, lattice boom mobile cranes and offshore cranes, for erecting wind turbines.
- Their special-purpose tower crane 630EC-H70 litronic can be used to erect wind-turbines with a hub height of 110m in low-wind regions. These tower cranes can lift loads of up to 70 tonnes.
- They also manufacture heavy-duty cranes to erect offshore wind turbines. These cranes can lift weights of up to 3000 tonnes.
- Liebherr manufactures other offshore wind-turbine components like diesel/electrical drive units, explosion protected cranes and special hoisting equipment. They can help customers to erect offshore wind-turbines up to 3000 meters, below the sea-level.
- Liebherr manufactures machine tools like gearing components, large diameter bearings, electric motors, slewing gearboxes, hydraulic cylinders, etc. required for large wind mills.
- They make systems required for electromechanical/hydraulic pitch and yaw adjustments, in wind turbines.
- Mixing plants supplied by Liebherr can be used to make concrete parts of wind-turbine towers.
- Liebherr automation systems has developed a portal for machining rotor blades.
- Liebherr manufactures large roller bearings/gearboxes using their own teeth milling & shaping machines.
