At the recent Wind Power India 2012 expo in Chennai, I met with the representatives of LM Wind Power. Curious, I then visited their website and their Youtube channel. I found an (above embedded) impressive video presentation that shows how LM Wind Power blades reduce the cost of energy per KW and how wind turbine blades are designed and tested in LM Wind Power facilities.
Headquartered in Kolding, Denmark, LM Wind Power is a manufacturer of wind turbine blades and brakes. Their global business office is located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. LM Wind Power has multiple factories and offices around the world and they have a manufacturing facility near Bangalore, in India.
According to the above video, LM Wind Power says that they manufacture one-third of all the blades available on wind-turbines today! They manufacture different types of blades ranging from 34 meters to 73.5 meters (in length) for wind-turbines of various capacities. Of course, these figures are subject to change as newer models are introduced.
It seems, LM Wind Power carries out some of the stringent tests on their wind-turbine blades. Their blades are bent/straightened 5 million times in two directions (for testing purpose) and their blades are also tested to see if they can withstand high-impact events like thunder storms.
Have a look at the various types of blades listed on their website.
