  • Established in 1987, Unitron Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd is a manufacturer of micro wind turbine systems (among others) and is based out of Pune, India. They also manufacture power conversion equipment like inverters, DC-DC converters, Charge regulators, VFD drives, etc.

Unitron Energy Systems manufactures micro wind turbines/wind generators with capacities ranging from 650 W to 5.1 KW. They also make hybrid systems and LED lights (5,400 - 18,000 Lumens). According to their website, they have installed more than 800 KW in more than 95 sites across India. A partial customer list for their micro wind turbines can be found here.

UNITRON has in-house facility for prodcution of mechanical components that are used in micro wind turbines like rotors, yaw-blades, bearings, shafts, etc. They manufacture fully automatic solar-wind hybrid systems for various applications.

In sites where wind blows consistently (hill stations, sea shores, islands, etc.), micro wind turbines can be an excellent option because unlike solar panels, these can generate electricity 24 x 7. Hybrid solar-wind systems are also useful as the combined system generates more energy during the day and wind turbines continue generating energy during the night, as well.

Micro wind turbines haven't been very popular in India yet, but they do have a lot of potential and can be installed even in urban locations, like the terrace of multi-storied buildings, etc. Both state governments and national government has schemes/incentives for promoting micro wind turbines, and hence customers (individuals/institutions) should look at installing them actively, in windy regions.
