Greenpeace recently organized an interesting renewable energy campaign in Delhi, to create further awareness about solar energy - Switch ON the SUN!! On World Environment Day, Greenpeace volunteers organized 25 cycles and invited people to pedal them, while the cycles remained in a stationary position.
These cycles were wired to a central display board with lights that read, 'Switch On The Sun, Greenpeace'. When the participants pedaled the cycle, the lights on display board started glowing due to the energy generated by the pedaling of cycles. Isn't that innovative? :)
The campaign was primarily to create awareness about application of solar energy in the daily lives of people, and also to encourage Delhi Govt. to create policies that could enable more people to install solar panels on roofs and create their own energy!
