  • As you can see in the above video, TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam) has already installed a number of wind-mills for their energy needs. TTD is one of the biggest Temples in the world (in terms of no. of visitors, etc). and it is located over a hill. TTD is well connected to the grid and even on the way, one can find lights (all along the steps) in order to guide the devotees climbing the mountain on foot, during nights. Many do.

Frankly, I have seen a couple of wind mills on Tirumala as early as a decade back when I used to walk up the hill. No, it will be too difficult for me to walk up now! They seem to have increased the no. of wind mills recently, and about a couple of days back, they have also inaugurated a 100 KW solar power plant to complement the wind power. This definitely shows the commitment of TTD to reduce their carbon emissions and adopt environment friendly technologies.

Other Temples have installed solar panels before, but Tirumala maybe unique as it has both solar panels and wind turbines! I hope that many more large Temples across India and the world will follow the example set by TTD. Installing renewable energy plants is public service as the organization's carbon footprint is reduced; and grid-power that is not used by these institutions can be diverted to other energy starved localities.
