I went to the Wind Power India 2012 expo/exhibition today, held at the Chennai Trade Center, Nandambakkam. I was enthralled to meet so many exhibitors, vendors, manufacturers, consultants, service providers, all related to the wind energy/wind power in India under a single roof! It was an exhilarating experience, to say the least! This exhibition is open tomorrow as well (30th Nov, 2012) and hence you can plan to go there tomorrow, if you are in Chennai and have not visited it already.
I didn't expect to see so many booths and such a huge crowd for this exhibition. That's because it is a B2B exhibition restricted to just one theme - Wind power in India! But the participation/enthusiasm shown by everyone impressed me a lot. It sort of makes me confident that wind energy not only has a huge potential in India, but there are people and companies who are passionate about converting the potential into projects and energy. Once you are inside the exhibition venue, you can actually feel the vibrant atmosphere!
First off, I was impressed with the huge parking area at the Chennai Trade Center. It's perfect for large exhibitions like this. When I went inside, I just gave my visiting card and the registration was complete within just 2 minutes! Talk about efficiency of the staff! BTW, there is no entry fees. People could walk in and walk out, anytime. Of course, you need to wear a badge that is provided at the registration counter. They also give you a large paper-bag that you can use to keep brochures, and in my case, a diary!
The hall is huge, but since there were many booths, the arrangement was sort of circular. You can walk around the perimeter of the rectangular hall and visit the various stalls. Once you complete it, there are four rows inside that huge perimeter (to cover), as well! It took me almost 4.5 hours to go through all the stalls!
There were all sorts of exhibitors. There were wind turbine manufacturers for sure. But I could also find a lot of turbine accessory vendors. I am sure the manufacturers would have found that convenient. I was surprised to find quite a few indigenous manufacturers of wind-turbines. I will write about some of them in this blog shortly, over the next few days. I could also find a lot of firms that provided turn-key project execution, right from wind power project evaluation to operation/maintenance.
I found some manufacturers of those large wind power monitoring systems (for the mandatory one-year wind-energy monitoring) who used laser and sonar systems to do the same. I found a few wind energy monitoring/modelling software vendors. A few renewable energy magazine companies had their own stalls, along with wind-turbine locking systems/ladder systems. I found CWET and Global Wind Energy Council stalls, as well. Many vendor representatives had come down from countries like Germany, Denmark, US, UK and others to meet prospective clients/partners, in this expo.
All the major wind turbine manufacturers including Gamesa, Suzlon, REGEN Power Tech, Kenersys, RRB Energy, etc. were present. There was a product introduction session where Gamesa introduced their new G97-2.0 MW Wind Turbine. The representatives gave an impressive presentation (along with a video) and answered all the questions from the audience members. I will write about this newly introduced model in this blog, shortly.
All in all, it was a great experience for me. It was an excellent networking opportunity and I utilized it to the fullest by meeting many people who were passionate about contributing to the development of wind-power, in India.
I will repeat what I told everyone in the exhibition - If you are providing any kind of service related to the wind, solar, hydro energy industries in India, please forward your product announcements and press releases to this email address - solarwindhydroenergy[at]gmail.com . I will write a short summary of the same in my blog and will link to your announcement pages. That will introduce your announcements to the wider audience following my site/landing from search engines.
Of course, I do not charge anything to publish any information on renewable energy technologies (and products), related to India, in my blog. So, feel free to contact me. If you drop me an email, you can be sure that your news/announcement will get a mention, on this blog. Also, don't forget to do the same, on an ongoing basis.
